Search Engine Optimization is What It's All About

Well, it's search engine optimization, it's search engine marketing, it's SEO consulting and training, and it's web design, but that's it! After many years of trying to be too many things for too many people, we're cutting back, again, and focusing on what we're really good at and what we enjoy doing.
Web development is a pain in the...well, it's a pain. Imagine that you ran an assembly line at Ford. You only have worry about making one car, right? Sure, the colors change, some of the smaller options change, but you're just making one car. Imagine that every day someone came in and said "I want you to put a car together for me, but I want it to look like this, and work like this, and have this feature and that feature, and I want it done in four weeks." Running a web development firm is something like that. Sure, you have past experience to help you along, but every website turns out to be a custom project that is unlike any other you've done before. I don't know if we've ever had two projects that were more than 10% alike. It's all custom work, and custom work is tough to do when it comes to technology. So we're out of it, probably for good.
Web design we're good at. SEO we're good at. And we enjoy that work. Web design is very simple and straightforward compared to web programming. SEO is great. There's recurring revenue, it's a smaller price tag which makes it easier to sell, and clients can see the direct results of it.
So we're no longer marketing ourselves as a web development firm, but rather as an SEO firm that does some web design work too, and we've modified our site structure and updated our web design portfolio to reflect that. Let the good times roll.
